Horizon Information

Students attending Horizon Alternative High School may choose to obtain the Horizon Alternative High School diploma or the Hillsdale High School diploma. Classes taken at Horizon will be Edgenuity online classes approved by the Hillsdale Community Schools Board of Education and under the Michigan Merit Curriculum requirements. Students must earn 46 credits total for a Horizon diploma or 56 credits total for a Hillsdale High School diploma, as well as completing the Michigan Merit requirements.

Students working towards a Horizon Alternative High School diploma must earn the following:
English - 9A & 9B, 10A & B, 11A & B, 12A & B
Math - Algebra IA & B, Geometry A & B, Algebra IIA & B, Senior Math A & B
Science - 2 general science classes, Biology A & B, Chemistry or Physics or Anatomy & Physiology A & B
Social Studies - US History A & B, Government, Economics, World History/Geography A & B
World Languages- 4 credits
Online - 1 credits
Health - 1 credit
Fine or Practical Arts - 1 credits
Physical Education - 1 credit
Life and Careers Skills - 2 credits
8 Elective credits

Students working towards a Hillsdale High School diploma must earn the following:

English - 9A & 9B, 10A & B, 11A & B, 12A & B
Math - Algebra IA & B, Geometry A & B, Algebra IIA & B, Senior Math A & B
Science - 2 general science classes, Biology A & B, Chemistry or Physics or Anatomy & Physiology A & B
Social Studies - US History A & B, Government, Economics, World History/Geography A & B

Computers - 2 credits
Health - 1 credit
Fine or Practical Arts - 2 credits

18 Elective credits
Students work at their own pace at Horizon Alternative High School, but they should be working towards earning a minimum of 4 credits each marking period to successfully graduate as soon as their cohort class graduates, or if afterwards, as soon as possible. Students may attend Horizon Alternative High School until reaching the age of 20 before September 1st of the current school year.
